Amongst the Causes of martyrdom of which we were in charge of or of which we are in charge of, their high number not only from the Spanish Civil War and the National-socialism, but as well from other hostile persecutions towards Catholics; just remember the martyrs of Angers, the Armenian victims of the ottoman persecution, the Argentinian martyrs of Zenta, and the religious victims of China.

Amongst several beatification causes completed and being taken to completion, we have sponsored the Cause of interesting mystical figures including Anna Caterina Emmerick and Therese Neumann, whom is very famous in the scientific world.

THE BEATIFICATION AND CANONIZATION PROCESS

How to instruct a recent or historic Cause

**We want to remind the reader that the information given on this site is very brief and concise.

There is a substantial difference between non-historical and historical Causes: the first are the ones that sustain themselves essentially from eye witnesses, by witnesses who have well-known the person that wants to be suggested for the glory of the altars, technically called the Servant of God. Instead the historical or antique cause, as the name says itself, deals with a person who has passed away a long time ago and therefore the Cause not being able to rely on direct sources, it has to find its first primary base in documents.

He/she (a person itself, a foundation, an association, a diocese, a congregation, religious order etc.) who promotes and economically maintains a Cause of Beatification or Canonization is called an Actor.

The Actor never proceeds personally with the cause but appoints an attorney who represents him first during the diocesan trial- that takes place mostly in the city where the Servant of God died- then in the Roman phase before The Congregation for the Causes of Saints.  It is to keep present that it is not strictly asked to have one same Postulator during the diocesan phase and the roman one, yet, on our extensive experience, clearly speaking it is always preferable to choose a legal representation from the group of roman Postulators to cover this delicate role seen that some of these have an advantage of much experience in which they can place themselves at the disposition of anyone, specially if they are willing to travel to different dioceses around the world.

As stated her, it is clear that the first step to take when initiating a Cause of filling out the mandate of the Postulator, whom after receiving the mandate to act, will proceed legally in carrying out the following duties:

-         Writing a biography of the Servant of God

-         Gathering the writings of the Servant of God and presenting them to receive the vow of two censor theologians that certify that in the writings there is nothing against the faith, the moral and the good customs.

-         Preparing an indicative list of the people who could witness

-         Gather this information and present it to the Bishop, the Ordinary Judge, together with a formal request to instruct the cause in the diocese.

If more than 30 years have gone by since the death of the Servant of God, there must be a reason indicated as to why the trial has not yet been started.

As soon as the Bishop receives the request of the Postulator with the documents listed above, he must follow the following steps:

-         Confer with the Bishops of the Ecclesiastic Region on the opportunity of introducing the Cause.

-         Allow the followers to know about the petition of the Postulator inviting them to submit any writings of the Servant of God in their possession.

-         Have the Servant of God’s writings be controlled ecclesiastically by theologians.

-         Ask for permission from the Holy See to begin the Cause.

 The Miracle

The Servants of God who have lived a saintly life, practicing all of the virtues in a heroic grade, are canonically defined as a “confessors.”  After they have received their decree stating they have been declared venerable, they need an approved miracle to arrive to Beatification.  In order to arrive to Canonization, in other words to be proclaimed a Saint, another miracle needs to be approved after the Beatification ceremony.

The other way to arrive to the altar of honour is to suffer martyrdom.  Martyrs are those who sacrificed their life accepting violent death with consciousness in order not to give up their catholic faith.  Martyrs do not need an approved miracle to be declared Blessed, whereas they need an approved miracle to be declared a Saint.
